Learning is the highest value of San Diego State University and the College of Professional Studies and Fine Arts. The Recreation and Tourism Management Program with its degree program and research center, is aligned with the goals and values of the University and College.
The Recreation and Tourism Management Program continues to be a leading undergraduate program based on faculty scholarship, outstanding student graduates, progressive educational techniques and innovative courses, and successful collaborations with community agencies.
In addition to learning by students and faculty as achieved through curricular and research experiences, other highly held values include pursuit of the teacher-scholar model; incorporation of community-based experiences into the curriculum that enhance learning and enable students and faculty to improve the quality of life in the community; internationalization of the curriculum through exchange and study abroad experiences and infusion of international students and scholars into the learning environment; and the use of technology to improve teaching and learning throughout the curriculum.
The Program relies on significant community/industry support for educating its student majors. Community/industry involvement is highly important to the overall educational goals of the Program. The education of undergraduate students in recreation and tourism management is a meaningful goal for the Program given the location of the University and the fact that 70% of the graduates remain in the local area.
